A group of newsrooms has published shared guidelines for assisted reporting tools, setting out when a tool may be used and how its involvement must be disclosed.
Three rules
- Disclose assistance in the byline area
- Verify every extracted fact against a primary source
- Require a named human sign-off before publication
Editors said the guidelines were deliberately short so that they could be adopted by small desks without a legal team.
